TOKYO

THE BRIEF

Twentyone06 was tasked to redesign and revival of Tokyo, a 35 year-old heritage Japanese restaurant in Saudi Arabia. The goal was to:

01
ENHANCE THE TOKYO

The Tokyo is a well known brand, but looked 2 dimensional we created additional layers to enhance the look and feel.

02
THE JUXTAPOSITION OF MATERIALS

Using a mixture of Japanese construction methods with modern materials to create a juxtaposition of tradition and modern.

03
FLEXIBLE & VERSATILE

The setup of the dining and sushi area to be flexible and accommodate a variety of group sizes. zoning allows for different ‘speeds’ of seating.

OUR APPROACH

Transition from Tradition - a juxtaposition of materials using traditional Japanese construction designs with modern materials.

The design style is focused on the Japanese style however, not just replicating but dissecting the principals of Japanese design and start to use modern materials and methods to enhance this unique Japanese restaurant brand.

The design story of Tokyo is to take the guests on a Japanese- inspired journey. From the moment you enter Tokyo you are transported to a different atmospheric ambience, which continues to layer with different experiences as the guest move through the restaurant.

Each area of Tokyo unfolds a different seating style with its own design environment, that gives the guests a new experience with each visit.
